About Amber Cohen, Psy.D., C.Psych.

Throughout my life, I have always had an interest in mental health and helping others.  My Honours BA in Psychology at The University of Western Ontario, fortified my decision to obtain higher education in the field of Psychology.

I went on to complete my Master’s and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (Chicago, IL).  I then rounded out my clinical training at the Faulk Center for Counseling and Keller Simon Healthcare and Associates in South Florida.

My comprehensive experiences in private practice, community mental health clinics, college counseling centers and hospital settings have solidified my clinical skills.

I am a member of The Ontario Psychological Association and a registered member of The College of Psychologists of Ontario.

My Approach

My primary theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy while integrating Mindfulness and other evidence-based methodologies.  I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

As your therapist, I will tailor my approach to meet your needs because everyone has unique difficulties and challenges.  Respect for your individual needs and experiences are of the utmost concern, so I work collaboratively with you to best tailor the treatment approach to your unique sensibilities.

I have experience with clients from varying cultures, ethnic backgrounds, religious groups and sexual orientations and value these differences.

Overall, I work to identify and develop your strengths while helping you recognize more effective ways of thinking, behaving, and communicating. I have a direct yet compassionate and empathic approach that will allow you to see improvements.
