Who We Are

The Grief Centre of Western Australia was created to provide Understanding, Support and Recovery to the people of WA. We are committed to helping those suffering and advocate on their behalf to change the way grief is viewed and responded to in the community.

Our Organisational Aims

The Grief Centre of Western Australia Aims to:

  • Provide quality counselling, support groups and associated activities, and practical services, support and advocacy, for people in Australia living with grief.
  • Research the causes and effects of grief on individuals, culture and society, and to educate the community about the grieving process and its implications, with a particular focus on the link to homelessness.
  • Provide information, services and support aimed at minimizing grief including end-of-life care, advanced health directives and funerals.
  • Affect changes in policy regarding how dead, dying and grieving people are treated by corporations, companies, and government departments, as well as any other associations where services are found deficient.

A grieving heart has a longing that will always remain; yet death is rarely discussed and conversations about grief are often avoided. When we find understanding, support and a sense of community, it is possible to not feel so alone in our grief.

We offer this support regardless of when the loss occurred or how it happened.

Services

The Grief Centre of Western Australia is available for adults, teenagers and children who are grieving after the death of a loved one or someone close to them.

Counselling is available for individuals, couples, families and groups and is provided by psychologists, qualified counsellors and trained volunteers.

Lean Into It has given me confidence to go out into the world knowing that I’m not the only one struggling. The staff gave me suggestions on how to deal with problems and it’s just an overall good place to be when in need.

I felt comfortable expressing my feelings, looked forward to every session, only downside is I had to travel very far.

Seeing My World Differently
5.0
  • Jim 6 years ago

I didn’t go straight home after the first meeting, not because I didn’t want to go home to an empty house, as in the past, but because I was content to stay out, I was seeing my world a little differently…

Grieving is Painful Yet Necessary
5.0
  • Jo 6 years ago

I had a feeling… that grieving is a painful… but necessary process… not an end (but) the beginning of a new stage in your life and given time and support you can get through it.
