Arranging and carrying out a funeral that best helps families cope and assists with the adjustments that must be made, is of vital importance. Very high standards are expected of all family members and staff resulting in a reputation for funeral excellence.
Our Role
A funeral is an emotional family event so it’s important to choose an experienced and reliable funeral director, who understands the special needs of your family.
Call us at any hour our caring and professionally trained staff will guide you through the many decisions and choices, to ensure your loved one’s funeral is a fitting reflection of their life.
An important and traditional part of a funeral director’s role is to assist with the practical aspects of a funeral, such as care of your loved one, and coordinating when and where the funeral will be held.
These days, families are increasingly seeking guidance and advice on the celebratory aspects of a funeral, such as the style and content of the service, the choice of music, and other touches that reflect the life of your loved one.
At Gregson & Weight, our experienced funeral directors can help you plan everything, in much the same way that a wedding planner coordinates and oversees all aspects of a wedding.
Our objective is to be your caring and trusted adviser, and to play a central, but unobtrusive role in planning what is often an important family event or celebration.
Our Services
A complete service in a church or chapel is an option for either burial or cremation. Alternatively, there can be a graveside gathering following the church or chapel service.

About Tobin Brothers Funeral Home
Tobin Brothers was founded by brothers Leo, Phonse, Thomas and Kevin Tobin in 1934.
The Company flourished in its early years due to the vision, hard work, and diverse strengths and interests of the four brothers.
Second, third and fourth generation family members have also brought a range of skills, and have successfully built on the solid foundation laid by our founders.
The company’s first branch location was in North Melbourne, where we still have our head office and a chapel today. The Company’s branch network now spreads to 22 locations across Melbourne, including Rosebud to the south, and in Sunbury to the north. In additional to our Melbourne facilities we are also located in Echuca.
As well as expanding throughout Melbourne, in the mid-late 1980s the Company established operations in Canberra and Adelaide, before divesting these businesses in 1995, to focus on its Melbourne operations.
Due to the involvement of the Tobin family in Melbourne’s Catholic Community, a large percentage of the funerals the Company conducted in its early years were for Catholic families.
Over the years however, the Company has developed experience and expertise in the funeral customs of numerous faiths and cultures, and today, provides service and care to a broad spectrum of Melbourne’s multicultural community.
The Company has a long and proud history of:
- Providing high levels of service and care to our client families;
- Commitment to the betterment of the wider community;
- Being a positive and stimulating place to work for our many dedicated and loyal staff.
These core principles and values were the foundation stones of the business, and continue to shine through in everything we do today.
Funeral Service Options
Tobin Brothers Funerals offer funeral services in Melbourne and across Victoria. We offer a wide range of funeral service options including ethnic funeral services and funerals by women through Frances Tobin Funerals by Women.
The life of a loved one can be celebrated in a variety of ways. Many people are involved in a Church community, and will choose to have the funeral service there.Others may prefer to use a funeral director’s or a crematorium chapel, or have the funeral service at some other special place, such as the family home, a park or a community hall or facility.
The number of mourners expected to attend is often an important consideration when choosing a venue for a funeral service. Funeral services can be conducted by clergy, a civil celebrant or even a family member or friend.
The most common types of funeral services are:
A Church/Chapel Funeral Service, followed by a Cemetery/Crematorium Service
This style of funeral service begins with a service at a church or funeral chapel (or other place), followed by a procession to the cemetery or crematorium, where there is a final committal ceremony.
A Single Service Funeral
A single service funeral can take place at one of our funeral chapels, a church, a crematorium chapel, at the graveside or a special place, such as a park or community hall.
This funeral service incorporates a final committal process, and there is no procession to the cemetery or crematorium.
A Memorial Service
A memorial service takes place after a private burial or cremation at any of the places referred to above.
Who We Are
The Arka team has grown organically, we have wonderful people who, although very different in a lot of ways, share the same values and passion for the work we do. One of the things that people appreciate about our team is that you could see the same person when your loved one is collected, as when you arrange the funeral and then on the day of the funeral. We are a small team, friendly and easy to talk to.
How We Work
When someone dies at home people can feel pressure to get their body removed to a funeral director, for some reason this feels like the thing to do. It may not be what you want to do however, you may want to keep them at home, in their bed for one more night (or more). You may want to have the person at home for one more night before their funeral ceremony, it’s very personal. We are able to facilitate this in a dignified manner, we have supported many people to do this and know that if this is the right thing to do for you and your family then it will really help in coming to terms with your loss.
The planning of every funeral should be started with a blank piece of paper. We believe that everyone is different and therefore each arrangement should be put together carefully and thoughtfully. At Arka we don’t have standard funeral arrangements for people to be ‘slotted’ into, we allow people time and space for the plans to grow so that the end result truly represents the person they have lost.
One thing to remember is that you don’t need to have a funeral! Obviously something needs to happen with the body of the deceased but we can arrange a private cremation or burial and a ceremony or memorial can happen at another time – or not at all. It’s very individual.
Our Services
From the initial contact we will guide and support you through the whole funeral process, both personally and professionally.
There are many aspects to think about, from the type of ceremony and venue, to the choice of coffin and vehicles. All are very important decisions and need time to be considered.
There is no reason why arranging a funeral should be rushed. Those involved need to recuperate from the shock and grief that even an expected death can bring.
At ARKA Original Funerals we encourage those involved to take space and time to breathe, whilst we provide the anchor point from which they can make their informed choices. Here are some of the options that you will need to consider.
About Cunningham Funeral Directors

We want to help make the send off for your loved one as individual and as meaningful as they are to you.
We strive for each funeral service to be a true reflection and tribute to an individual’s life and to the impact that their life has made to those around them.
When it comes time to say goodbye to someone we love, more often than not, we say it with a funeral. But how can this single event on a single day possibly do justice to the sum of the life your loved one lived? It’s a big ask.
The right funeral will celebrate the things that made your loved one so special. Their sense of humour. Their quirks. A love of gardening. Their beloved ’66 Mercedes. Their dedication to family. Their childhood. Their culture. Their views on life and what comes after. The big things, the small things – they all come together to paint a portrait of the person.
At William Cole Funerals, we do things your way. We don’t believe in only offering generic funeral services that say little about the person they celebrate. We prefer to plan the funeral around the life that they lived.
Maybe it’s about the right choice of song. Or maybe it’s about finding a poignant location for the ceremony. Maybe there is no ceremony. We can be guided by tradition, or we can throw tradition to the wind.
You knew them best, so tell us all about them, and together, we’ll plan a funeral that feels right – a funeral that feels like them.

Funeral Service
A funeral service is a special time for family and friends to comfort one another, begin to find healing and celebrate a life well lived. Whether you choose burial or cremation, you can hold a funeral service to honor your loved one. We are happy to provide a traditional funeral or something completely unique. Many cultures and religions have special funeral traditions and we will do our best to accommodate your requests. This is a moment for you and your family and we are honored to help you in any way that we can.
Memorial Service
Just like a funeral service, a memorial service is a time to remember your loved one. This can be held shortly after death or weeks later, with or without an urn present. What’s important is that it creates a time and a place for family and friends to gather together and support one another, share memories and pay their respects. We can hold a memorial service at our funeral home, the final resting place or at your home.
Burial
A casket burial is a traditional service and there are many options you can choose from. We can provide an immediate burial without a public service; a visitation, viewing or wake with a closed or open casket; a funeral service at our funeral home, church or private home and a graveside service at a cemetery. You can choose whether you’d like a public or private service or a combination. It is entirely up to you how you wish to pay your respects.
Cremation
Cremation has become a popular option for many people because it can be more flexible as to where and when you hold a service. You can have a traditional funeral service before a cremation or a memorial service at any time with or without the urn present. You can keep the urn, scatter the ashes or have the urn buried in a grave or columbarium where we can hold a service. Whether you choose burial or cremation, we’re here to offer you a meaningful ceremony.
Life is full of opportunities to show someone we love them. One such opportunity is the funeral or memorial service. Such a loving event celebrates the choices they made, the relationship you shared, and honors the memory of your loved one.
It’s important to take the time to acknowledge the uniqueness of the deceased: the individuality of their personality, and the uniqueness of their life’s path. Not just for them, but for you; it affirms the relationship, and leads to healing after loss. Honoring their life is truly an act of love – for the both of you.
